Three killed in lorry accident IN TIRUPATI

costly mistake: The ill-fated trucks that rammed into each other on the Tirupati-Kadapa highway on Tuesday.
TIRUPATI: The sheer enthusiasm of a lorry cleaner to get behind the wheels cost three lives, including his own, at a ghastly road accident near Mamandur on the Tirupati-Kadapa highway in the early hours of Tuesday.
The cleaner, Kovvuri Venkata Prasad, convinced truck driver Ramanaiah and took control of the steering wheel of the empty lorry TN01 AH 2599, which was plying from Chennai to Yerraguntla. His inexperience and lack of skill became evident when he rammed the vehicle head on into a parcel lorry (KA22 A 8180) on its way to Chennai from Mumbai, killing its driver Balu and cleaner Pinnu on the spot. Cleaner Prasad too died in the ghastly accident. The parcel lorry was reported to belong to Belgaum and was carrying chemical bundles to Chennai.
The impact of the accident was so high that the trucks got inextricably entangled and the three bodies badly dismembered. Renigunta police are investigating the case.
The only survivor driver Ramanaiah, who obviously ‘violated’ road rules, is fighting for his life at the SVRR Government General Hospital here.

Tirumala Staff Reporter adds: Seven pilgrims, all of them from Bangalore, sustained injuries when the tempo traveller in which they were commuting met with an accident on the first ghat road leading to Tirupati on Tuesday.
According to the police, the driver lost control over the vehicle while negotiating a deep curve on the ghat road about 14 kms from Tirumala and capsized after hitting against the parapet wall on the road.
All the injured were immediately rushed to the government-run SVRR Hospital. The police said there were fifteen pilgrims on board.
